    U.S. shipments of gas warm air furnaces for September 2010 increased 15%.

    The Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute reports U.S. shipments of gas warm air furnaces for September 2010 increased 15%, to 280,097 units, up from 243,190 units shipped in September 2009.

    Oil warm air furnace shipments increased 22%, to 9,233 units in September 2010, up from 7,567 units shipped in September 2009. Year-to-date U.S. shipments of gas warm air furnaces increased 16%, to 1,706,114 units, compared with 1,472,370 units shipped during the same period in 2009.

    Year-to-date U.S. shipments of oil warm air furnaces increased 12% to 37,646 units, compared with 33,704 units shipped during the same period in 2009. U.S. shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps totaled 383,921 units in September 2010, down 8% from 419,025 units shipped in September 2009.

    U.S. shipments of air conditioners decreased 13%, to 252,370 units, down from 290,341 units shipped in September 2009. U.S. shipments of air-source heat pumps increased 2%, to 131,551 units, up from 128,684 units shipped in September 2009. Year-to-date combined shipments of residential central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps increased 1%, to 4,283,180 units, up from 4,239,126 units shipped in September 2009.

    Year-to-date shipments of central air conditioners decreased 1%, to 2,871,132 units, down from 2,906,215 units shipped during the same period in 2009. The year-to-date total for heat pump shipments increased 6%, to 1,412,048 units, up from 1,332,911 units shipped during the same period in 2009.
