A new training concept called DuctFair attracted 280 technicians and building inspectors to its recent conferences in Conway and Columbia, SC. Also in attendance were senior level manufacturers’ representatives and technical college instructors.

Sponsored by the South Carolina Association of Heating and Air Conditioning Contractors (SCAHACC), DuctFair focused on the “do’s” and “don’ts” of professional ductwork fabrication and installation.

The half-day workshops provided expert instruction in a myriad of duct-related topics, including the proper installation of flex and fibrous glass ducts, as well as the proper application of tapes and mastics. Proper procedures for installing fiberglass blanket insulation onto sheet metal ducts, and secure techniques of connecting plenums to air handlers were also covered.

The Air Diffusion Council of Schaumburg, IL participated by furnishing each attendee with a copy of its newly published Flexible Duct Performance & Installation Standards, 4th edition. The North American Insulation Manufacturers Association of Alexandria, VA provided a copy of its Fibrous Glass Residential Duct Construction Standards, 3rd edition to each attendee.

DuctFair’s training was approved for continuing education credit for building inspectors by the South Carolina Building Codes Council.
