AAON RQ series packaged rooftop units are engineered for high efficiency and energy savings. Double-wall rigid polyurethane foam insulated cabinet construction and direct drive backward curved plenum fans allow RQ series units to have quiet, energy efficient airflow with high static pressure capabilities.
RQ units are available as air-cooled condenser packaged rooftop units, air-source, water-source, or geothermal heat pumps, 100% outside air units and chilled water or non-compressorized air handlers.
Building owners can increase operating efficiency and comfort control with a Carrier EnergyX energy recovery ventilator (ERV) system, now offered on Carrier WeatherMaster 48/50HC rooftops. This factory-installed offering pre-conditions the outdoor air before it enters the rooftop unit evaporator coil, and uses building exhaust air as a heat exchange source. As a result, the system, which is fully integrated into the rooftop unit, operates efficiently under a wider range of ambient temperatures. Based on Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) guidelines, EnergyX units achieve combined efficiency factors (CEF) of up to 17.
Goodman 6- to 20-ton packaged gas/electric units provide contactors with lugs, full perimeter rails, standard 2-in. filters, and single-point service access. Goodman units often match to existing roof curbs, for simpler installation.
The units also feature Goodman’s innovative TuffTube tubular heat exchanger, a high-efficiency scroll compressor, copper tube/aluminum fin coils, R-410A, a high-capacity, steel-cased filter dryer and UV-resistant powder paint finish.
The Johnson Controls Series 10 single packaged unit combines efficiency ratings (up to 15 SEER) and ease of installation in a light commercial unit. The hot gas reheat option allows contractors to maintain a comfortable temperature while controlling humidity levels. Dehumidification is accomplished without the need for electric or gas heating. The system efficiently reuses hot gas from the cooling cycle to allow for dehumidification without increasing sensible cooling.
The Energence 3- to 50-ton rooftop unit product line combines efficient performance with the Prodigy control system. The Energence line features ratings up to 18 SEER, 12.8 SEER and 14.5 IPLV, and is Energy Star qualified. Lennox’ exclusive MSAV (multi-stage air volume) supply fan technology, factory-installed on 7.5- to 25-ton units, helps reduce energy use. The MSAV supply fan uses a patent-pending variable frequency drive to lower airflow during part-load cooling, heating, ventilation and free cooling operation modes.
The high-efficiency 7.5 and 10-ton Mammoth R6GP series units are specifically designed for the retrofit market. Rated at 11.2 EER, they use R-410A refrigerant.
Mammoth commercial gas packs fit most standard rooftop applications and can be adapted for exceptions or converted to horizontal airflow with a kit. The units feature a full perimeter base rail system with rigging holes and forklift slots on three sides.
The Atherion, Modine’s 15 – to 30-ton commercial packaged ventilation system, is designed to meet ASHRAE 189.1 and 62.1 standards for efficiency and indoor air quality and features optional high-efficiency gas heating. Its advanced energy recovery module option makes the Atherion a high efficiency, 100% dedicated outside air unit.

Designed for full-service restaurants, the Rheem H2AC packaged rooftop unit™ with eSync Integration Technology delivers air conditioning and water heating from a single source. This system uses the heat removed from the HVAC system—which would normally be rejected into the atmosphere—to heat water. Specifically, the unit switches from a refrigerant-to-air system, to a refrigerant-to-water system, when a restaurant has demand for air conditioning and hot water. In a six-month pilot period, a Western Sizzlin buffet restaurant in Northwest Arkansas saved more than $2,300 on its gas utility bills as a result of installing the new Rheem integrated air and water solution.
The Energy Conservatory
The Energy Conservatory announces the new FlowBlaster capture hood accessory designed for use with the company’s Duct Blaster system. This product is designed to accurately measure airflow in residential heating/cooling registers with flows from 10 CFM to 300 CFM.
Unlike other capture hoods, hot wire anemometers or rotating vane anemometers, the FlowBlaster accessory conditions the flow. It then compensates for pressure loss of the flow conditioners and variations in construction by precisely adjusting the Duct Blaster fan speed to remove the pressure loss.
Fieldpiece Instruments introduces its new line of in-duct HVACR instruments, featuring an expandable 38-in. telescoping probe making it easier to take temperature, %RH, or air velocity readings at the correct location—in the duct for more precise results.
The three new in-duct products include two psychrometers (SRH3 and ARH5) and a hot-wire anemometer (STA2). The standalone STA2 hot-wire anemometer uses a hot wire for measuring air velocity. It displays any combination of CFM, air velocity, and temperature at the same time on the backlit dual display. Plus, the STA2 automatically averages multiple test points based on the free area input to calculate CFM.
General Tools introduces the pipe and duct video borescope inspection system (DPS16). The DPS16 offers the flexibility and performance necessary for precisely examining and documenting the interior conditions of ductwork and water and sewer pipes.
The two-component DPS16 system is one-part probe and reel, one-part recording borescope. The included pipe and duct inspection probe and reel set (P16PIP) comprises a 72-ft. long camera-tipped probe, a sturdy take-up reel and accessories for centering the probe in 2, 4 and 6-in. I.D. pipes. The 1.1-in. diameter camera has a depth of field of 0.4-in. to infinity, a 150-degree viewing angle and eight bright white LEDs that yield 640 x 480 pixel resolution.
Ideal Industries, Inc. introduces its Resi-Pro line of digital multimeters.
The two multimeters that make up the Resi-Pro line deliver the functionality required by residential electricians to perform routine testing operations, such as measuring AC/DC voltage, current, resistance and temperature. Testo introduces the Testo 557, a digital AC/refrigeration system manifold with four valves and a built in vacuum gauge. The 557 is ruggedly built to use everyday for installing, analyzing and maintaining all air conditioning, heat pump and refrigeration systems. In addition, the 557 will also perform leak tests on AC/R systems with temperature compensation insuring accurate results.
The 557 has two NTC temperature probe inputs and can simultaneously measure, and display superheat and sub cooling in real time.
RIDGID announces a new addition to its hand-held diagnostic and inspection product line: the micro CA-300, a hand-held inspection camera.
The micro CA-300 inspection camera offers an easy way to diagnose and document jobsite problems. The unit records still images and videos, and integrates audio with a built-in microphone and speaker, providing the ability to record insights and playback problems in hard-to-reach areas.
The micro CA-300 features user-adjustable image rotation and digital zoom to get the perfect view. The unit comes with a rugged, anodized aluminum camera head with four bright LEDs to provide improved lighting.
