You've heard me say it before, "we are our own worst enemy." That is probably true of most businesses and industries. We have to acknowledge what if any changes have to be made and initiate those changes. To leave it up to someone else is simply leaving your success and destiny up to someone else. I for one would rather control my own destiny.

I recently found myself in a situation where I needed a top-drawer service tech and the list of qualified candidates was very short. One individual who would have been a great asset to the company had all the right credentials. He had grown up in the business, had a current journeyman's license (active for several years) had all the necessary EPA certification AND as a bonus, held a Masters License. In fact, this individual, even though he was a service tech for his current employer, held the Masters license for that company! This is not a situation I would recommend for most companies, as you are somewhat hostage to that employee (if you plan on following the rules).
