• LG Electronics Announces Strides in HVAC Efficiency

    Jan. 29, 2013
At 2013 AHR Expo, Dallas, TX, LG today announced a powerful new family of commercial air conditioning products for 2013, designed to address a range of market demands and to support the further expansion of the company's U.S. commercial and residential HVAC business.

At 2013 AHR Expo, LG announced a powerful new family of commercial air conditioning products for 2013, designed to address a range of market demands and to support the further expansion of the company's U.S. commercial and residential HVAC business.

Additions to LG's variable refrigerant flow (VRF) and duct-free system (DFS) portfolios include new multi- and single-zone systems, air cleaning, filtration and control devices.

Show headliners include MULTI F MAX, an advanced new eight-zone duct-free split heat pump system; Art Cool Premier, the industry's first duct-free product with a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) of up to 28; and the Dynamic V8 VL Series Air Cleaner, offering the longest filter life currently available on the market.

"In the U.S. market, we are seeing adoption rates for VRF and DFS technologies continue to increase as more customers experience first-hand the benefits of increased system performance and efficiency capabilities, combined with life cycle cost savings," said James Lee , senior vice president, Air Conditioning and Energy Solutions, LG Electronics USA. "With global innovations like MULTI F MAX and Art Cool Premier, the LG products on display at AHR Expo this year are paving a solid growth path for our business in 2013 and beyond."

Complementing the new technology showcased, LG is bringing its popular in-market education seminars to AHR Expo this year, holding concise yet informative sessions at the LG booth throughout the show. Sessions led by LG product development experts and engineers will cover VRF, DFS and Air Cleaning Technologies, High Rise Solutions and Hybrid Piping Strategy, among other topics.

New Multi-Zone Duct-Free Split Heat Pump System
LG's new multi-zone duct-free split heat pump system, MUTLI F MAX, provides either heating or cooling for up to eight separate zones, while increasing overall capacity up to 54,000 BTUH.

In addition to gains in system capacity and configuration options, the new MULTI F MAX also features engineering and design updates that deliver increased efficiency ratings (SEER up to 18.4), decreased noise levels 54 dB(A) rated cooling and 56 dB(A) rated heating) and improved piping capabilities, while maintaining existing MULTI F system footprint and approximate weight.

"MULTI F MAX addresses the growing popularity of multi-zone heating and cooling systems in commercial building projects," said Kevin McNamara , vice president, Commercial Air Conditioning, LG Electronics USA. "And it's a testament to LG's ability to engineer and bring to market new solutions based on customer demand and emerging applications, especially as the need for higher efficiency solutions continues to increase."

During a morning press conference, McNamara said LG is embarking on a program in 2013 that will result in a superior customer experience, flawless execution, and technical superiority, and that LG would be increasingly driven by data, knowledge, and action.

    Higher Efficiency Duct-Free Solutions
Exemplifying continued advances in energy efficiency, product design and ease of installation, LG's duct-free split HVAC systems on display at AHR Expo include two new additions to the popular Art Cool product offering for both residential and commercial markets.

Recently introduced to the U.S. market, Art Cool Premier is LG's high efficiency duct-free split solution with an astounding SEER of up to 28 for the 9,000 Btu/h model and up to 26 for the 12,000 BTUH model.

Art Cool Premier features an optimized 4-way swing airflow, allowing for a 6-step vertical vane, 5-step horizontal louver to disperse air effectively in any environment. It also offers powerful heating options, with up to 39 feet of powerful airflow and a 70 degree vertical airflow to complement the new three-column heat exchanger, which uses tubes of varying diameter to reduce loss of heat and dramatically enhance the heating power.

LG engineers have also redesigned the fan, increasing size by 25% while adding a 15 degree  angle to the blades to reduce surface pressure, reducing sound levels and causing the model to operate incredibly quietly. At its lowest, Art Cool Premier resounds at only 17dB (sleep mode), far lower than the ambient noise in an average library. Complementing the unobtrusive sound levels is an innovative design featuring a honeycomb air inlet across the top and an LED display on the right, combining high style with high-powered technology and industry-leading efficiency.

New for 2013 is the LG Art Cool Gallery with Inverter. The duct-free residential single zone heat pump system comes in 9,000 and 12,000 Btu/h models with an innovative picture frame design that can be personalized with artwork or photography. Art Cool Gallery with Inverter features built-in low ambient cooling down to 14 degrees and energy saving inverter technology providing SEER of up to 16 for both Energy Star qualified models.

All new Art Cool models, including Art Cool Premier and Art Cool Gallery with Inverter, also include LG's new Extended Warranty of five years on parts and seven years for compressors.

Expanded Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) Portfolio
LG's Multi V portfolio of VRF solutions now includes Multi V Water II with Heat Recovery, featuring an Inverter compressor with superior load matching, temperature and dehumidification control for individual comfort zones and improved energy efficiency.  A new solution for multi-unit developments, LG's Multi V Space offers single phase VRF in a compact design ideal for high-rise condominiums.

These product additions illustrate LG's continued advancements in VRF technology and increased adoption across the commercial building industry. Many Multi V products, including the recently-introduced Multi V III, also feature updated Air Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) ratings.

    Cleaner Air Technology
The all-new DynamicV8 VL Series Air Cleaner combines a variety of technological advances with a superior dust holding capacity to deliver superior performance and energy efficiency while simultaneously minimizing maintenance needs and reducing life cycle cost.

The state-of-the-art Dynamic V8 VL Series Air Cleaner features the longest filter life currently available on the market, substantively reducing a wide range of particulate and gas-phase contaminants, including: ultra-fine particulate, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), odors and biological contaminants.  The Dynamic V8 VL Series Air Cleaner is also the first Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) solution for VRF systems that does not emit ion or ozone pollutants.

With a far greater dust holding capacity compared to typical two inch MERV-13 filters, the Dynamic V8 VL Series Air Cleaner was designed to prevent degradation of airflow as the filter ages, holding a minimal air pressure drop throughout the filter life. This also means that the maintenance cycle of the V8 is typically measured in years, not months.

Smarter Controls, Remote Applications and Filtration Options
Illustrating the growing demand for smarter, more efficient HVAC controls and remote applications, additional LG solutions on display at AHR Expo include new control solutions that enable broader temperature control and energy monitoring capabilities as well as mobile technology applications to allow for fast and efficient remote system control.

LG's new thermostat (model PREMTB10U) is designed to meet the ASHRAE 90.1 standard, with two set-points for ambient indoor temperature, unoccupied override features and a wide set-point range to ensure more accurate temperature control. Another control solution, LG's new AC Smart Premium thermostat, features a user-friendly interface with 10.2-inch screen, visual navigation for floor plan and device location, and energy report functionality to track statistical data related to operational hours and power consumption.

An effective new fresh air solution, the LG ERV is also on display. The LG ERV was designed for use with VRF systems and features a high-efficiency heat exchanger, using only existing fan energy to condition outside air.  Available in four sizes, the LG ERV tempers outside air and reduces humidity with minimal impact on energy consumption.
