A New Era: 3-D Printing A/C Unit Sells for More Than $6,000

The 3-D printing trend has given a unique means of production to many industries. There have been 3-D printed shoes, toys, tools and even guns. Now, the technology is spreading its arms into the world of HVAC.

According to 3DPrint.com, a 3-D printed air conditioning unit was sold for 40,000 Chinese Yuan, or $6,395. This is the first and only unit created thus far, according to the website.

What makes the Haier 3-D printed air conditioner so special is the fact that it can be completely customized to look and function exactly how its buyer wants it to. Who would have thought that there would be a day when you could customize the look of your air conditioner? Well, apparently that day has now arrived.

What do you think of 3-D printed air conditioning units? Is there potential for this to become more widespread? Let us know in the comments or join our conversation on Contracting Business’ LinkedIn group.
