    Traceable® Humidity/Temperature/Dew Point Meter

Control Company's Traceable® Digital Hygrometer/Thermometer/Dew Point instrument provides a response time of under 10 seconds with a resolution of 0.01%RH, 0.01°F/°C, and 0.01° dew point °F/°C. It samples one-and-a-half times per second. “Fuzzy logic” algorithm pinpoints the exact answer almost instantly. The direct-reading instrument has an accuracy of ±1.5%RH and ±0.4C. Results are reported in both degrees F and degrees C from -40.00 to 220.0F (-40.00 to 104.0C) temperature, and from -40.00 to 140.0F (-40.00 to 60.00C) dew point.

To assure accuracy an individually serial-numbered Traceable® Certificate is provided from our ISO 17025 calibration laboratory accredited by A2LA. It indicates traceability to standards provided by NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology).

DC-Powered, Ductless Mini-Split Air Conditioner Unveiled by Solar Panels Plus

Solar Panels Plus (SPP), has released the SplitCool DC18, DC-powered, high SEER air conditioning system. The SplitCool DC18 is ideal for any commercial or residential location where cooling or heating is required and grid power is unavailable, unreliable or requires generators.

The SplitCool runs off a battery bank that is supplied power from an array of photovoltaic panels and installs without ducts, eliminating the majority of installation and materials costs. The unit can be added quickly to an existing structure and eliminates nearly 30% of cooling or heating losses, which occur in the ductwork of forced air systems. It allows each room to be conditioned as a separate zone. The SplitCool DC18 can be used in permanent and temporary remote buildings or structures, such as construction office trailers, portable classrooms or medical facilities.

Taco Introduces the Solar X-Pump Block®

Taco's Solar X-Pump block combines a variable speed solar differential temperature control, bronze heat source and heat sink circulators, and a stainless steel flat plate heat exchanger into one compact package. The variable speed controls are designed to match solar collector output, a feature that increases system performance by 20%, sources say. With just four pipe connections, the installation is complete.

The Solar SXPB can be set up to maintain a temperature differential between the solar collector(s) and up to two primary and optional auxiliary storage tanks. The unit can support a booster pump as part of a drain-back system, comes with a heat dump option and freeze protection. The Solar X-Pump block's large LCD screen conveniently displays the amount of thermal energy harvested by the collector. The system also comes with three strap-on sensors.

    COMFORTECH PRODUCT SHOWCASE AWARD

At HVAC Comfortech 2009, 11 products were recognized as Product Showcase Award winners. Judges took into consideration the ease with which HVAC contractors can apply the technology, and the technical value of the product or service to the HVAC industry. We'll feature these products each month in upcoming issues of Contracting Business. This month, we're featuring Modine's Effinity 93 Gas Fired Unit Heater, the winner in the Forced Air Heating category. For additional information on any of the products listed here, circle the appropriate number(s) on the reader service card at the back of this issue or visit www.contractingbusiness.com/freeinfo.html.

Modine Introduces the Effinity93 Unit Heater With 93%Efficiency

Modine announced the introduction of its Effinity93 with Conservicore technology. A full line of six models ranging from 135,000 to 310,000 BTU/hr — all operating at 93% efficiency — gives commercial HVAC users a more efficient way of heating their buildings so they can dramatically lower their energy bills, decrease fuel consumption, and keep their environments controlled for optimal comfort and safety, sources say.

The Effinity93 (Model PTC) features Modine's Conservicore technology, a high-grade stainless steel secondary heat exchanger specifically designed to withstand the acidic condensate that is a byproduct of the combustion process. This technology offers greater durability than standard aluminum secondary heat exchangers.

The Effinity93 can be vented as either a two-pipe or concentric vent system for maximum flexibility with either 3-in. or 4 in. PVC vent piping for quick, simple and cost effective installations, sources say.
