Daikin AC Announces New 460 Volt VRV-WIII
The expansion of the Variable Refrigerant Volume (VRV) water-cooled condensing unit line now includes the 460V, 3-phase VRV-WIII unit, expands the market for applying VRV technology in commercial buildings, in both new construction and retrofit applications.
The VRV-WIII’s compact and lightweight structure, modular design, and zoning capabilities make installations easy in any building size. At only 330-343 lbs. and less than 40-in. high, the VRV-WIII can take a ride up the elevator to be installed in a mechanical room. VRV-WIII systems keep operational costs at a minimum by controlling up to 32 zones individually and being able to reduce capacity or shut down completely to match the zone load requirement.
Trane’s XV20i Variable Speed Air Conditioning System
Revealed during Comfortech 2013 in Nashville, the XV20i uses Trane’s TruComfort Variable Speed technology to deliver precise and efficient comfort by running your heating and cooling at the exact speed needed — saving up to $564/year in energy costs. Key features include temperature control with 0.5 degree of setpoint, a 30-100% system speed/capacity modulation range, and efficiencies up to 20 SEER/14 EER.
This Energy Star qualified product is compatible with the ComfortLink II Communicating Systems and Nexia Home Intelligence. Employs the Trane Climatuff Variable Speed compressor and Spine Fin coil. Also available in a heat pump version which delivers 80% heat capacity to 17F.
Coleman High Efficiency Packaged Units
Johnson Controls introduces the Coleman Outfitter Ultra High Efficiency packaged unit. The unit delivers efficiencies up to 18.1 SEER and 14.35 EER. This is due to the combination of the unit’s two-stage compressor, variable-frequency drive (VFD), high-efficiency indoor/outdoor coil and premium-efficiency indoor/outdoor motor. A common footprint allows for easy installation on a curb, slab, roof rack or frame.
Danfoss Improves Part-Load Efficiency on Variable Speed Commercial Compressors
Danfoss plans to extend its inverter scroll compressor range VZH to include three new models. The variable-speed VZH compressors provide superior efficiency at part-load conditions, can improve efficiency by more than 30% compared to fixed-speed compressors.
Designed for small rooftop and process cooling applications, the new inverter scroll compressor VZH features cooling capacities between 4 and 6.5 tons of refrigeration with a single compressor, and up to 13 tons with a manifold configuration. With a permanent magnet motor and patented Danfoss intermediate discharge valves (IDV), which can help improve part-load efficiency by up to 24%, the new variable-speed compressor range VZH will facilitate efficiency ratings up to 21 IEER and can modulate from 15 to 100 RPS.
Honeywell Launches Three New Pressure Switch Families
Honeywell announces the addition of three new series to its pressure switch portfolio: the HP, HE, and LE Series. The new pressure switches from Honeywell Sensing and Control provide high burst pressure ranges, a long life-cycle rating, and IP67 sealing which allows for use in harsh environments. These features can help to protect critical systems, reduce OEM warranty costs, and end-user downtime.
Honeywell’s expanded modular portfolio reduces total cost of ownership and helps to protect operators and critical equipment subsystems.
The pressure switches provide a wide temperature range of -40F to 248F, and accuracy of up to ±2%. The electromechanical gauge pressure on/off switches are available with either single-pole single-throw normally-open or normally-closed circuitry, or single-pole double-throw circuitry.
Noritz Tankless Water Heaters Available in Autodesk Seek
Design professionals in the residential and commercial construction industry can now specify Noritz tankless water heaters using Autodesk Seek, an online source for product specifications and building information modeling (BIM) for building design. The site now features 10 Noritz products in its database library.
With the ability to quickly search either by model number or product name, Noritz products can be embedded directly into the search bar of major design software used by roughly 80% of the industry—including Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, and Autodesk Design Review.
Reversible Fans Improve Indoor Air Quality
Tjernlund Products, Inc. offers a pair of energy-saving fans that can automatically and simultaneously rid basements or other areas of stale, musty, or smelly air and draw in fresh outside air.
Called XCHANGER, the fans come in two styles. Model X2D is designed for mounting directly next to an outside wall and Model X2R can be connected to the outside intake/exhaust hood with 6-in. ducts so it can be installed in a different room than where the outside wall hood is located. Both models feature two reversible 90 CFM fans that can be positioned to move air in either direction. The user has three options: (1) exhaust air from the interior, (2) draw outside air into the home or (3) reverse one fan for a balanced air exchange.
Uniweld Announces the EZ Turn Anti-Blowback Hose
Uniweld Products, Inc. has released its new EZ Turn Anti-Blowback Hose. When connecting a standard hose nut to an access fitting, the valve core is depressed and the pressure from the system is released, spraying harmful refrigerant directly onto the technician’s hand and many times causing finger burns.
The EZ Turn Anti-Blowback fitting has a thrust bearing that reduces friction so the service hose can be easily connected to the access fitting while under pressure. This becomes extremely useful when working with high pressure 410A systems.
The compact design of the EZ Turn Anti-Blowback Hose allows it to fit in tight work spaces and the deep square knurling gives the user complete finger-tip control. An orange and blue colored band around the hose nut make it easily recognizable. The hoses can be purchased individually, as a set of three, as a set of three bundled with manifold, or, if you already own hoses, EZ Turn Adaptors are available to convert any hose to an EZ Turn Hose.
Venstar’s ColorTouch Thermostats Certified with Control4 Automation Systems
Venstar announced that its ColorTouch residential and commercial color touch screen programmable thermostats can now be integrated with Control4 automation systems. The ColorTouch driver is now certified by Control4. With the integration, users can now remotely control their ColorTouch thermostats, including changing settings for heating and air conditioning.
