"The board’s laser-focused objective is to unite our industry partners to ensure the industry is not duplicating resources, and we’re certain that Bart’s ability to foster strong relationships will help our association achieve that goal," said Eric Knaak, 2019-20 ACCA Chairman.
“ACCA will be the uncontested leader in representing contractors. Without you, and without your amazing skills and dedication, this industry wouldn’t be what it is today,” Knaak said. “We will be a leader when it comes to working with our corporate partners, who have made a commitment to you. We will be a leader when it comes to our sister associations, such as HARDI, AHRI, ASHRAE, PHCC our ACO partners and any other association that wants to work toward a common goal of supporting skilled trades people, distributors and manufacturers. We’re going to see collaboration among these organizations so that we can provide our members with the support that you need.”

ACCA Commercial Contractor of the Year is Del-Air Mechanical Company, Knoxville, Tenn. Lori Sentelli and Tony Yanniello accepted the award from Steve Schmidt.
Difilippo's Wins S.T.A.R. Award
Federated Insurance’s ACCA Super S.T.A.R. Award went to DiFilippo’s Service Company, Paoli, Pa., accepted by Laura Difilippo.
The S.T.A.R. award is presented annually to an ACCA member who prioritizes the four components of the award: safety, teamwork, accountability, and responsibility.
The Spirit of Independence Award was presented to Phil Forner, right, of Allendale Heating Company, Allendale, Michigan, shown here with 2019-2020 ACCA Chairman Erik Knaak.
Phil Forner, Allendale Heating Company, received the 2019 Spirit of Independence Award. Forner has been involved with ACCA’s government relations activities, and in 2004 helped secure the introduction of the earliest version of the HVAC Expensing and Technology (HEAT) Act by former-Congressman Pete Hoekstra. This legislation was signed into law by President Trump as part of the 2017 Tax Reform Package.
"The joke's on ACCA," Forner said. "By serving, I learned so much, and it didn't cost a thing."
Seth Mattison, is founder and chief movement officer of FutureSight Labs, and a renowned expert on workforce trends and generational dynamics.
Mattison told the ACCA crowd that the future of work in America is and will be influenced by the interaction and conflict of hierarchies and networks. Numerous "shifts" are required for the work world to face the future with confidence. These shifts involve skills, experience, processes, technology acceptance and each person's inner perceptions.

Visit by Daniel Simmons
ACCA President/CEO Bart James provided Daniel Simmons, Assistant Secretary of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, with a tour of the ACCA exhibit floor. Following his address to attendees, Simmons visited with contractors and manufacturers to discuss federal energy efficiency programs.
“ACCA is proud to host Assistant Secretary Simmons for a keynote address and is excited that he will meet with contractors and industry professionals to hear first-hand their concerns with the decades-long focus on equipment-focused efficiency programs," James said. "ACCA supported President Trump’s nomination of Mr. Simmons and his eventual confirmation by the Senate because he has proven to be a thoughtful leader who understands the need emphasize the role contractors play in our nation’s efficiency portfolio. We look forward to continuing the great relationship we have with Mr. Simmons.”

Heath Betts, business coach with Nexstar Network, focused on the 10 Attributes of a Successful Service Manager. Success in service combines a blend of necessary functions with best behaviors. The three essential service manager duties are tracking, training and coaching, Betts said.
Darren Woodson on Teams
Dallas Cowboys great Darren Woodson shared what happened when Jerry Jones canned Tom Landry to bring in Jimmy Johnson. The first couple years under Johnson were difficult, but the team had to stay focused on winning. And every team has its share of different personalities.
