Our friend John E. Gross asks: "Are we facing a correction within a bear market, or the beginning of a new bull market?" He says several factors contribute to the debate, and favor one or the other market trends.
"Critically" low inventories, green energy transitions and expectations of long-term copper shortages indicate the bull is pawing the ground and ready to charge. The slowing global economy and rising interest rates and European energy crisis would indicate the bear is awakening. Mr. Gross is leaning toward a bear market, especially with concerns over China's economy.
