HVAC Contractor's Truck Branding Includes NBA Sponsorship

Champion’s connection to the Spurs is a strong and recognizable element on the vehicles. Owner Ben Hubbert believes it stands for city pride, quality, and “championship” status.

Truck branding is all the rage, as new application methods have taken it to new heights of creativity. Eye-catching truck wraps are now used to attract more looks as vehicles make their rounds.

Ben Hubbert tried truck wraps, and found they work.

A young San Antonio HVAC contractor has also found value in displaying his firm’s support for the San Antonio Spurs on his vehicles. Champion AC, an eight-year, all-in-one air conditioning service company in San Antonio, has seen an increase in requests for its services, due in large part to the implementation of its “Tops and Trucks” program. Tops in Trucks includes a fleet of 17 vehicles: box trucks, vans, Tundras and Transits. These vehicles were branded with the intent to increase loyalty, build rapport with the community, and sustain San Antonio’s culture.

San Antonio is known as “Military City, USA,” due to the presence of Lackland Air Force Base, Fort Sam Houston, Randolph Air Force Base, and Brooks City Base. And of course, it’s also home to the NBA champion San Antonio Spurs.

Appropriately, the design on Champion AC vehicles feature the Spurs coyote mascot, and a patriotic red, white, and blue design that suggests the American flag.

But then, this company has patriotism in its blood. Champion AC president Ben Hubbert started the business following military service in the Middle East, and after a period of HVAC study. Today, he’s especially devoted to improving energy efficiency for his many customers.

Hubbert has about 35 employees, 20 of whom are field technicians. Certifications include North American Technician Excellence (NATE) and National Comfort Institute (NCI). The company has also achieved the designation of Trane Comfort Specialists.

And, being a veteran-owned business, the truck’s design emphasizes the importance of patriotism. Through Tops and Trucks, Champion AC is regarded as a go-to air conditioning company in San Antonio. It continues to serve the San Antonio community through active community engagement, including heat awareness presentations to local elementary schools and boys clubs and girls clubs.

“We’re a lot more recognizable. People can remember our name, and then find us online,” Hubbert says of the truck branding. “It’s increased our call volume greatly. You need to see things five to seven times before you remember a company.

“Homeowners aren’t thinking of who to call. Our trucks have the same look and name, for top-of-mind awareness. That’s where we’ve done well,” Hubbert says.
