Seminar 39 Biodiesel and Other Liquid Biofuels: Green Fuels for the Environment
Tuesday, 8 am to 10 am, Rm. 213B
In this session, combustion studies and field demonstrations that have increased the awareness of the benefits of biodiesel are reviewed.

Seminar 40 Improved Operations for California Buildings: Part 1
Tuesday, 8 am to 10 am, Rm. 303C/D
In the first of this two-part seminar, authors present recent research and design techniques funded by the California PIER buildings energy efficiency program addressing automated fault detection and performance optimization methods for air handling systems.

Seminar 41 Recent Developments in Household Refrigerators
Tuesday, 8 am to 10 am, Rm. 213A
A focus on advances in refrigeration technology, including new refrigerants, refrigeration cycles and compressor/component technologies.

Seminar 42 Recent Trends in Correctional Facility Design
Tuesday, 8 am to 10 am, Rm. 213C
This seminar provides guidance to help HVAC design professionals stay current with the recent design trends for correctional facilities.

Seminar 43 Ventilation and Air Cleaning for Bars, Restaurants and Casinos
Tuesday, 8 am to 10 am, Rm. 210A/B
Ventilation and filtration strategies to address the special needs of bars, restaurants and casinos are described and practical applications presented.

Symposium AN-04-10 Renewable Energy Sources, Energy Efficiency and BPS for Sustainable Local and Regional Development
Tuesday, 10:15 am to 12:15 pm, Rm. 213A
This symposia encompasses technical advances in sustainable buildings' renewable energy sources integrated and distributed energy systems development. In addition, it discusses the importance of building performance simulation (BPS).

Seminar 44 Business, Technical and Legal Issues Relating to Commissioning
Tuesday, 10:15 am to 12:15 pm, Rm. 213D
This seminar offers information about commissioning, including marketing, attracting clients, negotiating contracts, meeting client expectations, and identifying common pitfalls and avoidance strategies. It also addresses the legal risks and liabilities of commissioning authorities and people who deal with them, and offers tips on how parties involved in the commissioning process can protect themselves.

Seminar 45 Improved Operations for California Buildings, Part 2
Tuesday, 10:15 am to 12:15 pm, Rm. 303C/D
See Seminar 40 (Part 2).

Seminar 46 Science Update and Vulnerability of HFCs

Seminar 47 Standard 62's Comfort-Only Approach to Smoking Spaces
Tuesday, 10:15 am to 12:15 pm, Rm. 210A/B
Addendum 62o to Standard 62 contains an appendix that describes a method, the intention of which is to achieve comfort, but not any health goals in smoking spaces. This seminar explores the limitations of the new method in reaching this comfort goal and the remaining health risks that are expected when the addendum is used.

Seminar 48 State of the Art Issues for DDC Systems
Tuesday, 10:15 am to 12:15 pm, Rm. 211A/B
This seminar brings together presenters of different "cutting" edge DDC technologies.

Forum 21 How Should 9/11 Change Smoke Control Design for Tall Buildings?
Tuesday, 10:15 am to 11:05 am, Rm. 213C
The events of Sept. 11, 2001, placed tall building design under greater scrutiny. A significant feature of tall building safety is the smoke control system. Should naturally ventilated smokeproof towers be planned instead of pressurized stairs for new construction? Should dedicated refuge floors be planned? Are dedicated firefighter elevators needed? The forum addresses these issues.

Forum 22 Remediation of Hazardous Materials for Nuclear and Industrial Facilities
Tuesday, 10:15 am to 11:05 am, Rm. 213B
An accidental chemical or other hazardous material release in or adjacent to a nuclear or industrial facility is of major concern to the safety of plant personnel and operations. The ventilation, filtration and contamination control systems for decommissioning, refueling, and other planned but temporary applications are also of importance for plant safety.

Forum 23 Mission Critical Data Center Design and Applications: What Are Today's Real-world Problems and How Do You Deal with Them?
Tuesday, 11:15 am to 12:05 pm, Rm. 213C
This forum allows building owners, end-users, engineers, contractors, and researchers to discuss the issues involved in data center design and provide direction for future research and programs.
