Twenty-six business owners, operations managers, project managers and estimators spent four days at the Plumbing, Heating, Cooling Contractors (PHCC) Educational Foundation’s June offering of the "Essentials of PHC Project Management" Course.
The training program — sponsored by American Standard Bath and Kitchen — focused on teaching attendees that planning and thoughtful project management practices will improve field productivity, reduce waste and yield higher company profits.
“Everything you do as a manager should be related to making those crews in the field as efficient and productive as possible,” said lead instructor Kirk Alter during the Essentials course.
“The average net profit of companies in our industry is around 2 to 3%. Increasing field productivity by just 1% can easily boost a company’s bottom line profits by a third or more.”
Attendees also learned about project finances, how to review and negotiate contracts, how to charge for all expenses associated with change orders and how to improve communications between all the parties involved in their projects. The next Essentials of Project Management Course will be held March 12-15, 2008 in Lansdowne, Va., near Washington Dulles Airport.
The Falls Church, Va. based PHCC Educational Foundation of the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors—National Association develops apprentice, journeyman, and business management training programs for the success of plumbing and HVACR contractors and their employees.
