At HVAC Comfortech 2011, 12 products were recognized as Product Showcase Award winners. Judges took into consideration the ease with which HVAC contractors can apply the technology, and the technical value of the product or service to the HVAC industry. We’ll feature these products each month in upcoming issues of Contracting Business. This month, we’re featuring SpeedClean’s Bucket Descaler, the winner in the Tools category. For additional information on any of the products listed here, circle the appropriate number(s) on the reader service card at the back of this issue or visit www.contractingbusiness.com/freeinfo.html.

BucketDescaler™ Simplifies Tankless Water Heater Maintenance
SpeedClean announces the launch of their newest product, the BucketDescaler, a water heater descaling system and SpeedyBright, a UL/NSF approved potable water descaling solution. These products allow for the quick and simple descaling of tanked and tankless water heater systems. The BucketDescaler is a fully integrated recirculation system made from high-grade acid proof pumps and fixtures. It’s industrial grade, lightweight, and affixes to any standard 5-gallon water bucket for ease of use. It easily connects to water in/out couplings and with a flick of a switch circulates SpeedClean SpeedyBright NSF certified descaler liquid that removes limescale and other deposits in minutes. SpeedyBright is specially formulated in single shot bottles, where one shot and a mix of water clean a standard tankless unit in 20 to 30 minutes.

Daikin AC Announces New Products in 2012
Daikin AC (Americas), Inc. announces they were number one in HVAC sales worldwide in 2011. Featuring the news on their overhead banner and in multiple locations in their booth at the 2012 AHR Expo in Chicago, the news caused quite a “buzz” on the show floor. In addition to this news, Daikin displayed a number of product line enhancements for 2012, and gave a series of live training presentations in the booth.

On the residential side, Daikin introduced the new streamlined L-series single-split products with efficiencies up to SEER 24.5, introducing a 3-tier strategy. Multi-Split systems were on display showing expanded indoor unit capacities and over 1,000 connection combinations, capturing the interest of many of our visitors. A new inverter ducted (unitary) system was announced with an expanded range up to 42MBH, efficiencies up to SEER 20, and estimated availability of June 2012.

The Daikin Altherma air-to-water heat pump received great reviews from visitors focused on energy efficient “green” solutions, impressed by its heating capacity and combined solution for domestic hot water and solar options.

Commercial products featured included the new FCQ round flow cassette, FBQ ducted and FTXS wall-mount fan coils for the SkyAir series, offering up to 35% higher SEER levels (up to SEER 19.3). The new VAM energy recovery ventilator, multiple port branch selectors and MERV13 filter kits were also on display.

Rectorseal Introduces a New Safe-T-Switch
Rectorseal has expanded its line of patented Safe-T-Switch electronic condensate overflow control switches with a new model, SS700E, designed to meet changes in air conditioning equipment. The new switch includes low power consuming microelectronics and is code compliant–tested to UL-508.

The switch is designed to fit in the auxiliary drain pan; it does not need to be mounted to the pan and eliminates screws and clips. The SS700E’s logic circuit continuously samples the probes for water and will shutdown the system if water is detected. Onboard LED’s indicates the condition of the unit at a glance, removing any guess work and will automatically reset once the water subsides. According to company sources, the simple wire design makes for easy installation. The multiple position options on the brackets provides adjustable heights options. The rust proof stainless steel adds to the reliability of the switch

Emerson Announces Expanded Range of Copeland Scroll UltraTech Compressor
Emerson Climate Technologies announces an expanded range for its next generation Copeland Scroll UltraTech compressor.

The next generation of the Copeland Scroll UltraTech compressor offers improved performance and reliability, as well as improved sound performance. The new 3-phase UltraTech compressor also offers enhanced system efficiency, comfort and reliability for commercial applications, while helping achieve ENERGY STAR requirements.

The addition of the CoreSenseT Diagnostics module can also provides active protection in single-phase UltraTech compressor models.

CoreSense Diagnostics for Copeland Scroll compressors assists contractors in troubleshooting residential air conditioning systems. By using the compressor as a sensor, CoreSense Diagnostics gives technicians insight into the system through the compressor, providing valuable information to help diagnose problems quickly and accurately, reducing costly callbacks, company sources say. Located in the control panel, Emerson’s CoreSense Diagnostics module strengthens the Copeland Scroll UltraTech compressor by unlocking advanced capabilities for diagnostics. Advanced algorithms and capabilities allow technicians to diagnose the past and present state of the system for fast and accurate troubleshooting and less downtime.

ClimateMaster Breaks the 40 EER Barrier
ClimateMaster introduces the Trilogy 40 series, the first geothermal heat pumps, according to company sources, to be certified by the Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) to exceed 40 EER at ground-loop (GLHP) conditions.

The Trilogy 40 utilizes variable speed technology to provide an extremely wide range of heating and cooling capacities, with the ability to perfectly match loads to as low as 30% of maximum. In addition, patent-pending Q-Mode technology produces year-round domestic hot water on demand, even when space conditioning isn’t required.

The Trilogy 40 Q-Mode series is the outcome of a five-year collaboration between ClimateMaster and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), which was sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Building Technologies program. Based on field tests and analysis by ORNL, the Trilogy 40 Q-Mode can save 55–65% of annual energy use and cost for space conditioning and water heating in residential applications versus new minimum efficiency (SEER 13) conventional systems and 30–35% versus current state-of-the-art two-stage geothermal heat pumps.

In addition to efficiency, the Trilogy 40 Q-Mode delivers unsurpassed comfort and humidity control by precisely matching its capacity to the heating and cooling load.
