Charles “Chip” Barnaby, vice president of research for Wrightsoft, Lexington, MA, has been presented with the Distinguished Service Award by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers, Inc. (ASHRAE) for his numerous contributions.
Barnaby has served on or chaired committees on energy and load calculations, climatic information, and XML definitions for HVACR.
Barnaby is the primary author of Chapter 29: Residential Heating and Cooling Load Calculations in the 2005 ASHRAE Handbook of Fundamentals and has written two technical papers on new residential heating and cooling load calculation procedures that use a detailed heat balance procedure. Both papers earned Barnaby ASHRAE Technical Paper awards, and are being used throughout the industry.
