Frost and Sullivan has named Danfoss Turbocor as the winner of its 2006 Technology Leadership of the Year Award in the HVACR compressor category. Danfoss won the recognition based on its centrifugal compressor technology. According to Frost and Sullivan — a global growth consulting company — the oil-free compressor is setting a new trend in technology innovation.
The oil-free compressor is part of Danfoss' EnVisioneering program, that applies engineering innovation to solve challenges of energy efficiency, emissions reduction, and environmental responsibility, according to Joseph Orosz, president of Danfoss Turbocor.
Danfoss believes the Turbocor centrifugal compressor could cause screw compressors to become obsolete.
The compressor uses a built-in variable frequency drive (VFD), for efficient unloading, and magnetic levitation bearings, which enable the shaft and connected impellers to float in mid-air in the Turbocor compressor.
