The Friday morning opening session of Comfortech 2008 featured a plethora of awards to industry legends and present-day superstars.

Those contractors who slept the night before rubbed the sleep from their eyes, and made it over to the Sidney Marcus Auditorium in the Georgia World Congress Center saw Contracting Business Editor-in-Chief and Group Publisher Joe Fristik present the following awards:

Tom McCart Consultant of the Year Award: Charlie Greer

- Quality Home Comfort Awards to: - Sigman Heating & Cooling, Belleville, IL - Orchard Valley Heating & Cooling, Southhampton, MA - Keil Heating & AC, Riverdale, NJ - Mechanical Air Service, San Jose, CA.

Industry legends Elliott Sokolow, a leader in the 1990s consolidation movement, and Preston Bond, founder of Linc Corporation, Were inducted into the Contracting Business Hall of Fame.

Mitchell Cropp, CEO of Cropp-Metcalfe, Fairfax, VA, was awarded the Residential Contractor of the Year Award. In his keynote address, Cropp spoke of all the elements that have made Cropp-Metcalfe's many customers "Customers for Life."

The winner of the NATE technician contest was Gary Hodges.

Comfortech 2008 continues until Saturday at noon.
