The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) installed new officers and directors at its 2002 Annual Meeting held in Honolulu June 22-26. The new ASHRAE president is Donald Colliver, Ph.D., P.E., Fellow ASHRAE, an associate professor at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY. As ASHRAE's president, Colliver directs the Society's Board of Directors and oversees the Executive Committee. In choosing his theme for this year, Building A Better World, Colliver said, "We must build on our successes and use our passion to take us to the next level. We must set goals that have a higher purpose." ASHRAE will address energy, environment, education and empowerment to achieve goals set by Dr. Colliver during the year he serves. Other officers installed for a one-year term are: • President-elect: Richard H. Rooley, FREng, Fellow ASHRAE, principal of Rooley Consultants in Stoke Poges, Bucks, England • Treasurer: Ron Vallort, P.E., Fellow ASHRAE, president of Ron Vallort and Associates in Oak Brook, IL • Vice president: Julian de Bullet, corporate director of sales for Primary Multicraft in metro Washington, DC • Vice president: Stephen W. Ivesdal, retired district general manager for Honeywell, Home and Building Control in Kansas City, MO • Vice president: Kent Peterson, P.E., a principal and chief mechanical engineer for P2S Engineering Inc. in Long Beach, CA • Vice president: Terry Townsend, Ph.D., P.E., Fellow ASHRAE, president of Townsend Engineering Inc. in Chattanooga, TN. ASHRAE installed the following directors to serve a three-year term from 2002-2005: • Director and regional chairman, Region VII: Hal Lunsford, project manager for Utility Consultants Inc. (based in Atlanta, GA) in Cropwell, AL • Director and regional chairman, Region VIII: Hugh McMillan III, P.E., a consulting engineer in Houston, TX • Director and regional chairman, Region IX: Timothy Wentz, P.E., an assistant professor at the University of Nebraska Lincoln in Lincoln, NE • Director and regional chairman, Region X: Donald Brandt, sales engineer for The Trane Co. in Tempe, AZ • Director and regional chairman, Region-At-Large, David Arnold, Ph.D., FREng, Fellow ASHRAE, partner in Troup, Bywaters & Anders in London, England. • Director-at-large: Michael F. Beda, P.E., is president of Process Equipment Co. in Tulsa, OK • Director-at-large: Thomas Phoenix, P.E., principal and vice president of Moser Mayer Phoenix Associates in Greensboro, NC • Director-at-large: Lawrence Spielvogel, P.E., Fellow ASHRAE, a consulting engineer in King of Prussia, PA. ASHRAE, founded in 1894, is an international organization of 55,000 persons. Its sole objective is to advance through research, standards writing, publishing and continuing education the arts and sciences of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration to serve the evolving needs of the public.
