John Saucier Named Chairman of ACCA

ARLINGTON, VA -- John Saucier was elected chairman of the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) for the 2003-2004 year, and assumed his leadership role at the association's annual conference on March 15, 2003. Saucier is founder and president of Temperature, Inc., a 16-employee firm in Memphis, Tennessee, specializing in commercial maintenance contracts and building automation systems. In accepting his position, Saucier outlined an agenda of issues for the association to tackle. "It's time to stop talking and start doing," Saucier said, pointing to challenges faced by the industry such as technician recruitment, manufacturer relations, and increasing the competitiveness of small independent contractors. A Memphis native, Saucier followed in his father's footsteps and joined the union pipefitter apprenticeship program when he was eighteen. A year later, he made what he still calls the smartest choice he ever made, and married his wife, Peggy. After learning that service technicians were in short supply, Saucier got a job as a service apprentice. Seven years later, on January 2, 1969, Temperature, Inc. opened for business, with not much capital and no customers. Within three months, Saucier hired his first employee, and another that summer. He learned early that he could make more profit if he grew slowly and avoided debt. While building their service-oriented business, Saucier and Peggy also grew their family. They have three sons, and a daughter, Julie, who works in the family business as Office Manager. Today, Temperature, Inc. employs 16 people, specializing in maintenance contracts and building automation. Saucier has been an active member of ACCA for thirty years, and has served on the association's Board of Directors for the last six. Saucier has served on the Memphis and Shelby County Mechanical Board since 1991. He is the past president of several industry-related organizations, including the Memphis Mechanical Contractor Association, the Memphis Refrigeration Service Engineers Society, and the Mid-South Air Conditioning Contractors of America (which he co-founded). ACCA is the national non-profit trade association that represents the educational, policy, and technical interests of the men and women who design, install, and maintain indoor environmental systems.
