AABC Virtual Event Announced

The event launches on October 21 at 1:00 p.m. EST, with 'Digital Transformation in The Building Industry', by ASHRAE President Charles Gulledge. Additional topics will be presented on various days through November 11.

Washington, D.C. —The Associated Air Balance Council (AABC) announced  on September 10 that the technical program for its annual meeting will be available in a virtual format, using live and recorded presentations. This will enable AABC Members and the wider industry to partake in the association’s highly regarded education program. Attendees will earn up to eight AIA continuing education learning units (LUs).

The event launches on October 21 at 1:00 p.m. Eastern with Digital Transformation in The Building Industry, by ASHRAE President Charles Gulledge, III. The presentation describes a future industry in which building data is transformed into knowledge that is shared with all its stakeholders in an insightful and actionable manner. Subsequent AABC Virtual Webinar Series programs include (all times Eastern):• New Methods to Verify Proper Functioning of Modern Fume Hood Systems Thomas C. Smith, 3Flow. A look at new technologies to control and modulate airflow with new fume hood design features. (Oct. 21, 2:15 p.m.)• Field Analysis of HVAC Systems’ Ability to Mitigate COVID-19 TransmissionA panel discussion featuring Wade Conlan, P.E., CxA, Hanson Professional Services, Justin Garner, P.E., TBE, CxA, Engineered Air Balance Co., Inc. and Troy Byers, P.E., TBE, CxA, Palmetto Air & Water Balance Inc. All members of ASHRAE’s Epidemic Task Force Building Readiness Team; they will discuss COVID mitigation efforts from the commissioning and TAB perspective. (Oct. 22, 1:00 p.m.)

• Case Studies: Commissioning and Test & Balance Collaboration (Army Reserve Center & Medical Office Bldg/Clinic) Todd Yates, P.E., TBE, CxA, Synergy Test & Balance. A thorough analysis of Cx provider and TAB contractor project coordination. (Oct. 28, 1:00 p.m.)

• Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF/VRV) Systems: Function, Testing & Monitoring Mark Harte, Technical Training Manager, Daikin. An examination of this ductless technology, originally introduced in the 1980s, that is widely adapted today.  (Oct. 29, 1:00 p.m.)

• Effects of Temperature Change on Building Static Pressure Measurement, Robin Rader, P.E., CxA, Design Alaska. A look at  the effects of cold weather on building static pressure measurement.  (Nov. 4, 1:00 p.m.)

• Hospital Air Balancing Planning & Coordination Case Studies, Rebecca Ellis, P.E., CxA, & Miles Ryan, Questions & Solutions Engineering, Inc. Examines TAB activities in the critical health care sector. (Nov. 4, 1:00 p.m.)

• Creating a Healthy Workplace in a Covid World: A Better Path Forward, Jeremy McDonald, P.E., Principal, Guth DeConzo, Consulting Engineers, PC. Asks the hard question: how we can mitigate the economic and social upheaval associated with this pandemic, while hardening our building indoor air quality against future pandemics. (Nov. 11, 1:00 p.m.)
