TAMPA, Fla. April 5, 2019 — With demand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning jobs in Florida expected to increase by more than 33 percent though 2024, Altierus Career College-Tampa has launched two new programs to meet the need. Refrigeration Technician (RT) and Industrial Electrical Technician (IET) programs currently enrolling for classes that start monthly beginning in May.

“Altierus has a history of training, preparing and supporting the next generation of trades professionals in Tampa,” said Oluyemi Awolola, campus director of Altierus Career College-Tampa. “These new programs enable us to expand our offerings to ensure we are meeting the needs of employers by filling the skills gap while also providing career opportunities for our graduates in high-demand fields.”

Altierus currently offers diploma programs for HVAC Technician and Electrical Construction Technician. Students wishing to specialize in Refrigeration or Industrial Electrical can enroll in the new programs individually or as a “cluster” along with HVAC or Electrical Construction. The curriculum is designed to be completed in nine months for single programs and 12 months when combined with one of the existing trade programs for a dual diploma.

Students enrolled in the programs receive hands-on instruction in the campus’ newly-equipped HVAC lab, new refrigeration lab or electrical labs, which are expected to be complete in May/June. The hands-on environment offers experience working with equipment such as air conditioning units, furnaces, electrical hookups, circuit boards, commercial refrigeration systems and more.Certification/credential preparation and testing are included with tuition for each program.

Altierus supports its students with professional skills development, resume development, job interview practice, externships or clinical rotations, and job placement. Recognizing that a student’s success relies on a balance between the demands of daily life and their education, Altierus provides loaner tablets, library computers, tutors and other resources to help support continuity to students in their school experience.
