Several Danfoss CO2 training units will be making stops across the US in 2017

As applications for carbon dioxide (CO₂) refrigeration systems expand, there is a need to increase competencies around its use in the industry. To address this growing concern, Danfoss introduces the mobile training unit equipped with CO₂ solutions and interactive learning modules for use across the globe to support Danfoss’ worldwide community.

The first stop of the mobile training unit is Danfoss’ North America headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland, on Jan. 10, 2017. Danfoss will launch several training containers to serve key markets in North America, Europe, and Asia. The training unit can accommodate up to 12 people at a time.

CO₂ is rapidly advancing in food retail refrigeration as traditional hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) are phased out and retailers are looking for ways to reduce their carbon footprint. Technology and components for CO₂ refrigeration are available today, but many system builders, refrigeration contractors, service technicians, installers, and technical departments of food retailers need to learn how to harvest the full potential of CO₂ systems.

“Danfoss is a leading provider of CO₂ solutions, and we encourage the use of CO₂ as a sustainable refrigerant,” said Hans Ole Matthiesen, segment marketing director, food retail at Danfoss. “Our mobile training unit will go a long way in promoting the benefits of CO₂. The training unit features equipment and components for CO₂ solutions, accompanied by hands-on training panels, along with onsite instruction by dedicated Danfoss CO₂ champions who will share their in-depth knowledge of the natural refrigerant’s properties and the opportunities and challenges surrounding the use of CO₂.”

The CO₂ solutions presented in the mobile training unit range from simple gas-bypass systems to more complex parallel compression solutions with or without heat reclaim. Moreover, the training unit introduces Danfoss’ brand new ejector technology, which industry experts recognize as key in the evolution of transcritical CO₂ refrigeration. These ejectors have the potential to enhance the energy efficiency of their systems by up to 20 percent on the hottest days of the year, thereby solving a problem that previously limited the use of transcritical CO₂ systems to milder climates.

Technologies for CO₂ refrigeration are still evolving to offer enhanced performance while increasing ease of use. As it travels to new locations, the mobile training unit will be constantly updated with new components, information, and learning modules to reflect these changes.
