Oberlin, OH — June 17, 2020 — World Refrigeration Day (WRD) is a global event focused on refrigeration, air conditioning, and heat pump technologies. This initiative is designed to raise the profile of the important contribution that refrigeration makes globally across so many aspects of modern life – from medical to food supply and farming, process engineering to data and IT, refrigeration technologies are essential and yet go widely unrecognized.
In 2019, the first WRD will be held on June 26th every year, which is the birthday of Lord Kelvin, who pioneered the international unit of temperature.
According to the 100-year-old Women's Engineering Society, it was reported a refrigerator is "a necessity for the health of the family so that the hidden danger of germs, bacteria & mold could be prevented, & the saving of health and money by prevention of wastage and spoilage of food’, appearing in a 1936 article in The Electrical Age.
In 2020 Professional HVAC/R, (Pro), is promoting WRD to promote the vast importance of refrigeration.
● Refrigeration is a great career choice.
● Refrigeration keeps our food safe over longer periods on time, reducing food waste.
● Refrigeration provides medical professionals with the tools to preserve blood, medicines, and human organs to improve and save lives.
● Refrigeration has allowed food banks to increase the amount of food provided to an increasing number of families in need of healthy and nutritious food.
In addition to the importance of refrigeration listed above, Pro announced that the Oberlin IGA in Oberlin, Ohio has installed two of the refrigerated display cases installed in the Pro Lab during the 2019 WRD Open House. Pro installed two Pure Cold, self-contained, refrigerated display cases at the Oberlin IGA, 331 E. Lorain Rd., in Oberlin.
While this market was already experiencing growth, grocers have seen a surge in sales of prepared meals and meal kits, during the COVID-19 pandemic. They add that Pure Cold is also an ideal solution for small grocery/convenience stores.
From 12 noon EST until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, June 26th Bradio will offer customers a look at the new display cases. Pro will be available to talk about the cases and solutions Pro and Pure Cold provide to grocers and their customers.
Both report that the Pure Cold unit is a great display case for prepared meals and meal kits. While this market was already experiencing growth, grocers have seen a surge in sales of prepared meals and meal kits, during the COVID-19 pandemic. They add that Pure Cold is also an ideal solution for small grocery/convenience stores.
Today is an exciting time in the refrigeration industry as it works to reduce and eliminate refrigerants that contribute to the growing concerns of climate change and global warming. Companies are working on alternatives to eliminate high global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants with low GWP alternatives like Honeywell’s R-448a and natural refrigerants. Natural refrigerants include hydrocarbons, carbon dioxide, and ammonia.
According to Geoff Amos of Pure Cold, “the world refrigeration market is changing and we’re providing and developing self-contained innovative products to meet these changes.” Kokinda adds, “we provide grocers with refrigeration cases to solve problems and increase sales”. “This is a great time for people out of work because of the pandemic to consider joining the expanding HVACR industry.”
Started in 2007, PRO’s main activity is installing refrigerators and freezers, for various retail clients in the US. Kokinda invites potential employees who are interested in learning the refrigeration process to visit, to learn the benefits efficiently and effectively install refrigeration equipment.
