    New High Wall Ductless System

    Carrier recently launched a new Performance™ Series high wall ductless system including the 40MAHB indoor unit and 38MARB outdoor unit, and the multi-poise 40MBAA air handler. As the latest, fully communicative additions in Carrier’s evolving ductless line of heating and cooling offerings, the products provide versatility and energy efficiency, as well as single and multi-zone capabilities. The indoor high wall 40MAHB unit provides seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER) ratings up to 28.1 and heating seasonal performance factor (HSPF) ratings up to 13.0 and is available in sizes 9k through 36k. The 40MBAA boasts SEER ratings up to 20.0 and HSPF ratings up to 10.0, and is available in sizes 24k, 36k and 48k.     The 40MAHB indoor high wall unit includes the Airflow Direction feature, which automatically controls the louver direction up and down, or left and right. Other standard features include a built-in relative humidity sensor; the Follow Me feature, which allows the temperature to be changed from the handheld remote; an auto restart function; three modes of standard operation; and occupancy sensors.

    The 40MAHB offers simplified installation and maintenance. Plus, increased total piping length and enhanced piping lift enable greater breadth of application and installation. There are also a wide variety of control options including a wireless remote controller, an optional wired remote controller, 24V interface and Wi-Fi kit.

Using Carrier’s 38MGR multi-zone system allows a homeowner to connect to as many as five

    Variable Speed Reciprocating Hermetic Compressors for Refrigeration

    Emerson has introduced its Copeland™ variable speed reciprocating hermetic compressors for commercial refrigeration applications. The new models are specifically engineered to save energy and provide performance improvements in a variety of demanding commercial refrigeration applications.

    Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the commercial refrigeration space have faced increasingly stringent energy requirements. Medium- and low-temperature stand-alone coolers and freezers, commonly used in restaurants, convenience stores (C-stores) and small-format food retailers, have been key targets of the Department of Energy’s (DOE) energy-efficiency standards. Additionally, targeted are units used in the life science market and for small industrial applications such as process chillers. The DOE will also soon be proposing its next phase-down in energy reductions for these applications, likely to take effect in 2024. This means that OEMs are seeking a competitive edge by offering equipment that helps them achieve ENERGY STAR® certification and delivers the energy-efficiency levels that will allow refrigeration units to meet upcoming DOE requirements.

    Copeland variable speed reciprocating hermetic compressors for refrigeration are comprised of two components:

    • Copeland variable speed reciprocating hermetic compressor, available in ranges from 1/8 to 7/8 horsepower, which features a brushless permanent magnet motor, versus a standard induction motor.
    • Copeland variable speed drive which has a smart controller integrated within it.

    Variable speed capabilities with smart controls can help deliver significant energy and performance improvements that far exceed fixed capacity options. While assisting customers in the redesign of their systems at Emerson’s test labs, they have increased system energy efficiency by 13 percent, reduced compressor cycling by 90 percent and lowered compression ratios by 43 percent compared to a high efficiency fixed speed system using propane (R-290). This means faster pulldowns to setpoint temperatures, more precise temperature holding, less wear and tear on system components and lower energy bills.

    By utilizing the natural refrigerant R-290 with a low global warming potential (GWP) of 3, OEMs can offer their customers a more sustainable refrigeration option that meets some of the most stringent refrigerant and energy-efficiency regulations, including the potential impending 2024 DOE standard, California Air Resources Board standards and potential Environmental Protection Agency refrigeration requirements.

    High-Quality Universal Parts Offer Reliability, Quality and Time-Savings

    For HVAC contractors, one of the biggest challenges is that there is never enough time in the day. Time is a valuable commodity. Homeowners and businesses need equipment repairs and replacements to happen as soon as reasonably possible. This means having the right part on-hand so the fix can happen quickly.

    The longer the repair takes, the likelihood grows for negative impact on contractor reputation and customer satisfaction. And if the contractor needs to wait for the part and make a second site visit, this means taking valuable time away from another potential job.

    This is why the idea of universal replacement parts can be so attractive. Stocking thousands of OEM replacement parts can be difficult and costly. Special orders and overnight shipping charges can add costs, reduce profit and delay job completion. Universal parts can help contractors more efficiently meet customer needs and increase reputation and profitability.

    Unfortunately, there are two often widely held misconceptions: that universal parts might be inferior to original spare parts, and that their complexity could make them difficult to install. A growing number of universal parts offer high quality and durability, ensuring contractors have the right part when they need it, maintain customer satisfaction, and can move from one job to the next as quickly as possible.

    A La Carte Menu Pricing

    The New Flat Rate, the first menu-pricing system for home service contractors, is going à la carte. The company’s new Section Selection product allows contractors to select individual sections from the menu pricing system in the HVAC, Equipment, Plumbing or Electrical Trades for a nominal price.

    This new option will allow contractors to select portions of the available Trades for a customized experience. Now with Section Selection, customers can easily begin diversifying and growing their service offerings one section at a time.

    “Section Selection builds onto our already impressive pricing system by allowing customers to determine what sections of our menu-pricing guide will best serve their business without purchasing the pricing system of an entire trade,” said Rodney Koop, founder and CEO of The New Flat Rate. “For example, many HVAC companies are not licensed to do Plumbing work but they are able to do Water Heater installations. With Section Selection, these HVAC contractors can add Water Heaters to their service offerings and have the power of The New Flat Rate menu to price these new services in the field.”
