Vermont 'Clean Heat' Bill Reaches Senate

Suppliers would earn 'clean heat credits' by using alternative heating methods and weatherizing homes.

March 16, 2022, VPR news - Abagael Giels of Vermont Public Radio reported the Vermont House of Representatives voted to advance a bill to craft a Clean Heat Standard. Next stop for the bill is the Vermont senate. Under the standard, fossil fuel wholesalers and importers working in Vermont would need to purchase or create "Clean Heat Credits."  Those credits would be earned by various activities that involve reducing the use of fossil fuels for heating buildings, such as heat pumps, pellet stoves and wood burning stoves.
