Papers presented at the IAQ 2001 conference sponsored by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) are now available. The IAQ 2001 Conference Proceedings CD contains 34 papers and discussions presented at the IAQ 2001 Moisture, Microbes and Health Effects: Indoor Air Quality and Moisture in Buildings, held Nov. 4-7, 2001, in San Francisco, CA. "These papers address causes of moisture and microbial growth, health effects, and prevention and control measures," William Rose, co-chair of the conference, says. "The CD features papers written by health scientists and building scientists, combining the disciplines of each at this conference with the goal of providing for good indoor air quality (IAQ)." The conference papers are divided into seven overall sessions: controlling indoor humidity levels –- practical applications; fungi and bioaerosoles; mechanical system challenges and solutions; modeling, testing and prediction; contamination and remediation; two sessions on performance of building assemblies and components; and investigation and sampling. Specific paper topics include: active humidity control and continuous ventilation for improved IAQ in schools, mold-associated asthma, preventing house dust mites allergens in new housing, avoiding mold in finished basements, and finding microbial growth with a mold dog. The cost of the CD is $61, or $49 for ASHRAE members. To order, contact ASHRAE Customer Service at 800/527-4723, or visit the ASHRAE Online Bookstore at www.ashrae.org.
