Carrier Named a USGBC Education Provider

April 19, 2010
First course will focus on earning LEED® points; to be given during Sustainability Symposiums, which began on April 13.

Carrier Corp. has recently been named a U.S. Green Building Council Education Provider (USGBC EP). To earn this status, Carrier's course materials were reviewed by a panel of USGBC peers and deemed to provide the high level of quality required for training Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) professionals.

The courses and workshops supporting LEED Accredited Professional and Green Associates credential maintenance are administered through Carrier University. Carrier Corp., a world leader in HVACR, is a unit of United Technologies Corp. The first course Carrier will offer as a USGBC Education Provider will be "Designing HVAC Systems to Optimize LEED® Points," which will be held during a U.S. Sustainability Symposium training tour designed specifically for consulting engineers, design-build contractors and facility managers. The initial Symposium event was held April 13, in Boca Raton, FL.

Carrier's Sustainability Symposiums offer a series of workshops that educate participants on the most current topics of green building and sustainable design and its impact on the selection and design of building systems. Successful completion of each course earns continuing education hours (CEH's) which count toward the Green Building Certification Institute's (GBCI) Professional Development Continuing Education Class (GBCI) requirement for credential maintenance.

USGBC Education Providers like Carrier are third-party organizations that offer the highest-quality education that has been peer-reviewed and approved by USGBC. "We are pleased to recognize Carrier's commitment to the development of rigorous training materials and courses to educate design and building professionals working to develop sustainable solutions and built environments," says Rick Fedrizzi, President and CEO, USGBC. "Carrier has long been dedicated to training the industry on environmentally responsible products and sustainable design solutions. Becoming a USGBC Education Provider is another validation of our expertise and commitment to developing a comprehensive, relevant sustainability curriculum," says John Mandyck, Carrier's vice president for Sustainability and Environmental Strategies. "As a founding member of the USGBC, we are proud to further strengthen our educational offering to the industry as an approved education provider."
