A sophisticated organizational concept has helped the team at Anvil International, Portsmouth, NH, reach a significant safety milestone. Anvil International, one of the largest and most complete manufacturers of pipe fittings, pipe hangers and piping support systems in the world, announced that its University Park, IL, distribution center has achieved the milestone of 1,000 days without a lost time incident.

Center was built to deliver expedient service, from order entry to fulfillment.

The milestone is particularly significant given the high-volume of orders that come through the University Park facility. The 192,000-sq.ft. regional service center was Anvil International’s first venture into the regional warehousing concept in 1999. It was built to deliver expedient service, from order entry to fulfillment, and to accommodate high-volume order processing across multiple product lines. A sophisticated distribution facility, the University Park center uses a vertical selective pallet racking system that accommodates 24,000 pallets along cantilever racking for efficient storage of thread rod and strut products. Material is inventoried and warehoused though a paperless computerized management process directly linked to Anvil’s barcode ordering systems.

“This accomplishment is a testament to the University Park staff’s dedication and personal commitment to safety,” said Ron Porretta, Anvil’s regional distribution manager. “This team truly exemplifies Anvil’s culture of leadership and professionalism.”

Anvil International is a subsidiary of Mueller Water Products Inc., a leading North American provider of water infrastructure products and services.
