Patrick Clark, president of Bell Plumbing & Heating, Anchorage, AK may not have traveled as far as some for the Trane Comfort Specialist (TCS) meeting in San Francisco, CA; however, one would expect that he’d appreciate the milder weather more than most — not so. As of December 3, 2002, Clark was still looking for the first major snowfall. “As much as we hate to admit it, this is still a weather-based business,” says Clark. The company began sending officers to attend the TCS meetings in 2001. They had been on vacation trips with their distributor but were in search of more opportunities to learn about new products and meet new people. The Trane meeting in San Francisco proved not only a good destination, it was a good resource, According to Clark. “The meeting kicked off Thursday evening with a buffet dinner for more than 500 people. Friday morning’s highlight was keynote speaker Joel Weldon who captivated the audience with “Using the Willie Factor,” a real-life tale of differentiation in today’s economy. Attendees mixed several educational break-out sessions with local sightseeing opportunities during the conference. The Trane Comfort Specialist meeting will take a one-year hiatus while many of the same San Francisco attendees will be vacationing in Vienna, Austria. The TCS meeting format will resume in 2004.
