A geothermal heating and cooling system significantly reduces the building’s energy requirements, allowing it to rely on renewable energy produced onsite

Delta Americas has opened of its new Americas headquarters in City of Fremont, Calif. that is designed to meet LEED Platinum and net zero standards. Sources say the 180,000-sq.ft. facility signifies Delta’s commitment to the Americas market. It incorporates many of Delta’s own leading technologies to achieve an elite level of sustainability. Through Delta’s solar photovoltaic (PV) power system, over 1,000 MWh of electricity is expected to be generated per year. The new Delta Americas Headquarters includes a geothermal heating and cooling system that reduces HVAC energy consumption by 60 percent compared to traditional systems, sources report.

The Delta building is powered by a 616kW solar system utilizing Delta’s own solar inverters that have an energy conversion efficiency of up to 98.5 percent.

Delta Americas serves the IT, communications, industrial automation, renewable energy, lighting, power tool, automotive electric vehicle, and other major industries. The geothermal heating and cooling system significantly reduces the building’s energy requirements, allowing it to rely on renewable energy produced onsite. To meet net zero criteria, the building is powered by a 616kW solar system utilizing Delta’s own solar inverters that have an energy conversion efficiency of up to 98.5 percent, and is expected to generate over 1,000 MWh of electricity per year. The building was designed by J.J. Pan & Associates and constructed by Vance Brown general contractors.

The facility’s geothermal heating and cooling system uses a ground source heat pump connected to a loop field of pipes located up to 30 feet underground. The pipes cover an area greater than 5 football playing fields. Heat is transferred to or from the ground to boost efficiency and achieve the 60% reduction in energy consumption compared to traditional HVAC systems. The ground source heat pump loops into the building’s bi-directional radiant floor and ceiling tubes embedded in the concrete slabs. In total, there is more than 92 miles of pipe circulating 12,000 gallons of water.

Many of Delta’s products and solutions are incorporated into the Delta Americas headquarters building, including:

  • Solar photovoltaic (PV) Inverters
  • Energy-saving variable frequency drives;
  • InfraSuit datacenter Infrastructure solutions;
  • Elevator power regeneration solutions;
  • Electric charging solutions, including EV chargers and the site management system (SMS);
  • Wireless outdoor LED lighting system;
  • Real-time energy management and monitoring software Delta Energy Online.

The facility features a 140,000 gallon rainwater harvesting system for irrigation. Uncollected rainwater will be directed to a bioswale. And, 20 percent of the building materials are reclaimed.
