Excessive Cooling Solved with Daikin VRV

June 5, 2018
Daikin VRV systems with ducted and ductless fan coils serve 12 zones where once there were three.

The leaders of Stetson Baptist Church in Deland, Florida were having problems controlling the temperatures throughout the church. Once just used as a sanctuary and classrooms, the church now housed a school and a chapel — all being used at different times during the week. With three inefficient split systems —20 tons for the main sanctuary, and 2, 10-ton systems handling the wings of the school — no one was comfortable. Spaces were being overcooled with a constantly changing load, resulting in a lot of wasted air conditioning and energy consumption.

Daikin contractor Blaine Aldrich with Comfort Service, Inc. recommended 30 tons of Daikin VRV equipment to replace the original 40 tons, and separated the building into 12 zones. Using a combination
of ducted and ductless indoor fan coils, he took into account the diversity of use between the different classrooms and sanctuary.

This solution resulted in the church being able to condition only the zones needed at any given time without wasting energy. Now the Stetson Baptist Church’s congregation and students can enjoy a
comfortable environment, no matter what their activity or time of day. The church also gained over 250 square feet of valuable storage space, as the Daikin systems freed up space in the mechanical rooms.
