Carrier Corp. has been invited to be a founding member of the Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) based on the company’s strong commitment to environmental sustainability through the promotion of energy efficient technologies, products and services.
Carrier pioneered the phase-out of CFCs for the air conditioning and refrigeration industry in 1994, two years ahead of U.S. requirements and 16 years before mandates in developing countries. Since then, Carrier has continued to develop cutting-edge sustainable products and solutions and has been recognized for its leadership in environmental stewardship. Carrier Corp., a unit of United Technologies Corp. is the world’s leader in high technology heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration solutions, improving the world around us through engineered innovation and environmental stewardship.
“As a leading supplier of HVAC systems, services and solutions in Singapore, Carrier has long been dedicated to delivering total building solutions to achieve energy efficient and sustainable building performance,” says Oon Wee Chin, managing director of Carrier South East Asia. “We are proud to be able to contribute to the green building cause in Singapore through our involvement in the Singapore Green Building Council.”
“Carrier extends its leadership to the global community; we are the only company in the world to be a founding member of the U.S., China, and India Green Building Councils, and we are proud to be named a founding member of the Singapore Green Building Council,” states John Mandyck, Carrier vice president for Sustainability & Environmental Strategies.
The Singapore Green Building Council was established during the International Green Building Conference on October 28-30, 2009. Its founding members consist of a cross section of participants in Singapore’s construction industry.
“The mission of the SGBC is to propel the Singapore building and construction industry towards environmental sustainability by promoting green building design, practices and technologies,” comments Lee Chuan Seng, president SGBC. “Carrier expects that its energy efficient technologies and services will continue to help accelerate the green building development in Singapore.”
Carrier entered Singapore in 1954 and over the years has developed a strong presence in the building market, with extensive product offerings, including innovative residential and commercial air conditioning equipment, comprehensive aftermarket services, and commercial building energy efficient retrofits. Carrier’s green air conditioning products can be found in local landmark buildings, including Singapore Changi Airport, Vivo City and Mapletree Anson.
“In 2008 and 2009, Carrier equipment, including the highly efficient 23XRV Evergreen® tri-rotor variable speed screw chiller with non-ozone depleting refrigerant, supported five buildings in achieving the Singapore Green Mark ‘Platinum’ Award and another two buildings in achieving the Green Mark ‘Gold’ Award,” adds Oon Wee Chin. Launched in January 2005, the Building and Construction Authority Green Mark Scheme is an initiative to drive Singapore's construction industry towards more environmentally sound buildings.
To further highlight its focus on environmental sustainability, Carrier has recently revised its brand identity, which now incorporates a stylized green leaf with the Carrier brand logo. The leaf represents the universal symbol for the environment, with a unique design created exclusively for Carrier. A new marketing icon was also introduced with the word “improve” and “building,” using the same leaf element as the brand identity.
“Carrier’s environmental strategy has been clear and consistent for years and now defines our brand identity,” says Mandyck. “We were the first company in the HVACR industry to directly incorporate sustainability into its brand, reinforcing our environmental leadership.”
