I have a fondness for the swimming races since I was on the high school swim team — I was the fastest backstroker on my team during junior and senior year (during junior year I decided that I was going to remain on top of my game senior year too, which I did). Boy, did I learn a lot in those years — I learned that mixing perseverance and determination with focus and fun is a recipe that is needed in order to maintain an optimal performance level and meet goals.
Of course my experience on the swim team was long ago, but now I have taken up another sport – golf, which has taught me that in order to improve you need to be self-aware of what you are doing in the first place, plus be open to moving out of your comfort zone. If you never move out of your comfort zone, most likely you will never improve. Plus, practice may not necessarily make perfect in this game (there is no such thing as perfection in golf), but practice is key in order to change and improve your swing.
Perseverance, determination, focus, fun, awareness, moving out of your comfort zone all have to do with running a business in this great industry.

So, what does all this swimming and golf talk have to do with running an HVACR distribution/wholesaler business? Everything! Perseverance, determination, focus, fun, awareness, moving out of your comfort zone all have to do with running a business in this great industry.
As most of you know, the industry is changing so fast thanks to the Internet of Things, Building Information Modeling, Smart Buildings, the Smart/Connected Home Market and Smart Tools. Plus virtual reality and augmented reality will most likely play a role in addressing the industry’s workforce development problems.
If you are not already learning about these technologies and how they are going to change the HVACR industry, you need to get out of your comfort zone (you don’t want to be stagnant) and gain knowledge in these areas.
