U.S. HVAC Equipment Shipments Drop Sharply in October 2025

Despite a weak October, year-to-date gas and oil warm air furnace shipments remain higher than 2024, underscoring continued demand for combustion-based heating.

Warm Air Furnaces 
U.S. shipments of gas warm air furnaces for October 2025 decreased -13%, to 244,324 units, compared to 280,747 units shipped in October 2024. Oil warm air furnace shipments decreased -16.8%, to 3,638 units in October 2025, compared to 4,375 units shipped in October 2024. 

Year-to-date U.S. shipments of gas warm air furnaces increased +5.7%, to 2,741,551 units, compared to  2,592,961 units shipped during the same period in 2024. Year-to-date U.S. shipments of oil warm air furnaces increased +6.3%, to 25,542 units, compared to 24,028 units shipped during the same period in 2024. 

Central Air Conditioners and Air-Source Heat Pumps 
U.S. shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps totaled 412,873 units in October 2025, decreased -49.4% compared to 815,360 units shipped in October 2024. U.S. shipments of air conditioners decreased -54.9%, to 202,990 units, compared to 449,972 units shipped in October 2024. U.S. shipments of air-source heat pumps decreased -42.6%, to 209,883 units, compared to 365,388 shipped in October 2024.  

Year-to-date combined shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps decreased -17.7%, to 6,961,815, compared to 8,455,008 units shipped during the same period in 2024. Year-to-date shipments of central air conditioners decreased -23.4%, to 3,734,995 units, compared to 4,873,899 units shipped during the same period in 2024. The year-to-date total for heat pump shipments decreased -9.9%, to 3,226,820, compared to 3,581,109 units shipped during the same period in 2024.
