Heat Pumps Hold Steady, Air Conditioners Slide: Breaking Down AHRI’s 2025 Year-End Shipment Numbers

Warm Air Furnaces 

U.S. shipments of gas warm air furnaces for December 2025 increased +0.0%, to 267,065 units, compared to 267,059 units shipped in December 2024. Oil warm air furnace shipments increased +31.5%, to 4,058 units in December 2025, compared to 3,087 units shipped in December 2024. 

Year-to-date U.S. shipments of gas warm air furnaces increased +4.1%, to 3,247,426 units, compared to 3,120,677 units shipped during the same period in 2024. Year-to-date U.S. shipments of oil warm air furnaces increased +9.2%, to 32,799 units, compared to 30,036 units shipped during the same period in 2024. 

Central Air Conditioners and Air-Source Heat Pumps 

U.S. shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps totaled 408,244 units in December 2025, decreased -21.4% compared to 519,326 units shipped in December 2024. U.S. shipments of air conditioners decreased -35.9%, to 188,715 units, compared to 294,336 units shipped in December 2024. U.S. shipments of air-source heat pumps decreased -2.4%, to 219,529 units, compared to 224,990 shipped in December 2024.  

Year-to-date combined shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps decreased -20.0%, to 7,749,529, compared to 9,681,770 units shipped during the same period in 2024. Year-to-date shipments of central air conditioners decreased -26.2%, to 4,104,933 units, compared to 5,559,766 units shipped during the same period in 2024. The year-to-date total for heat pump shipments decreased -11.6%, to 3,644,596, compared to 4,122,004 units shipped during the same period in 2024.
