DAVIDSON, North Carolina — Trane Technologies has opened the Trane Advanced Technology Training Center, a 45,000-square-foot facility in Davidson, North Carolina, designed to expand hands-on training for commercial HVAC technicians.
Located at Trane Technologies’ North America headquarters, the site is intended to prepare technicians to work on increasingly connected, efficient, and complex building systems.
“The launch of the ATTC represents an important investment in the future of our industry,” said Holly Paeper, president, Commercial HVAC Americas, Trane Technologies. “As building systems become more connected, more efficient, and more sophisticated, the expertise required to service them continues to grow. This center empowers Trane’s technician network - the largest and most experienced in the world - to support these next‑generation systems with confidence.”
According to Trane Technologies, the facility can train up to 4,500 students annually and deliver more than 100,000 training hours each year. Programs focus on commissioning, maintenance, repair, and optimization of commercial climate systems.
The center combines in-person laboratory instruction with digital learning modules, creating multiple training pathways for technicians at different career stages. The hybrid model is designed to expand access to technical training across the United States while providing practical experience with newer HVAC technologies.
The launch comes as contractors across the industry continue to face skilled labor shortages while customer demand rises for advanced systems, energy efficiency upgrades, and reliable service support.
Earlier in the day, North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein toured the facility during an executive roundtable focused on clean energy, innovation, and economic growth hosted at the Trane Technologies campus.
Trane Technologies said it invested more than $50 million during 2024 and 2025 in the new training center and an engineering and research lab for compressor development testing and full-scale chiller performance evaluation.
The company also said it expects to hire more than 1,000 additional technicians over the next 18 months. Its Trane Commercial HVAC Technician Apprenticeship Program, a four-year program accredited by the U.S. Department of Labor, has enrolled nearly 300 apprentices since launching in 2023.
