If you know what to look for, a visual inspection provides clues to unsafe operation. It's never good for one package unit to exhaust into the economizer of an adjacent unit.

Before you jump on the heat pump bashing bandwagon, look at your duct installation practices first.

Bad Guys Steal, ‘Good Guys’ Replace Church AC Equipment

Oct. 2, 2014
Kenneth D. Goodrich, CEO of Goettl Good Guys Air Conditioning, reports the company and two major HVAC manufacturers combined to replace five damaged air conditioning units at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School in Phoenix, AZ.

The copper tubing from five air conditioning units at St. Catherine of Siena was stolen on August 1, leaving the school with no air conditioning, with the first day of school less than two weeks away.

When Goodrich learned about the theft, he contacted officials at Lennox Industries and Goodman Manufacturing. The two companies agreed to donate five new, 5-ton air conditioning units, valued at $30,000. Team members from Goettl and sister-company Sonoran Air Conditioning arrived at the school to install the new units in mid-August. Goodrich personally inspected the damaged units, and advised the school to install cages to protect from future incidents. When the school agreed, Goodrich arranged for the donation and installation of the cages as well.

“It’s unfortunate this type of theft has become such a serious problem in the Valley,” Goodrich said. “Air conditioning is a vital part of life in Arizona, and I’m glad our team of good guys was able to help these students and teachers before the start of classes.”

As planned, classes started on schedule at St. Catherine of Siena with fully-functioning air conditioning units.

“The students, teachers and families of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School in South Phoenix are grateful for the generosity of Goettl Air Conditioning,” said Rob Rogers, principal of St. Catherine of Siena School. “When our AC units were stripped of their copper and the units had to be replaced, we were in jeopardy of having the start of our school year adversely affected. Goettl stepped up right away and offered to not only replace our AC Units with new units but to install them and replace the protective cages to make the units more secure. The students of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School started school on time in cool comfortable classrooms, thanks to Goettl.”

This was one of the first opportunities for Goettl and Sonoran to team up following Goodrich’s acquisition of Sonoran through Tucson Peach, LLC. Tucson Peach acquired the company in July, allowing both Goettl and Sonoran to strengthen their wide range of service offerings in the area. This acquisition helped make the donation to St. Catherine of Siena possible.
