U.S. Heat Pump and Air Conditioner Shipments Increase in August
Warm Air Furnaces
U.S. shipments of gas warm air furnaces for August 2026 decreased -4.3%, to 287,710 units, compared to 300,585 units shipped in August 2025. Oil warm air furnace shipments increased +27.1%, to 3,052 units in August 2026, compared to 2,401 units shipped in August 2025.
Year-to-date U.S. shipments of gas warm air furnaces decreased -5.0%, to 2,106,454 units, compared to 2,216,226 units shipped during the same period in 2025. Year-to-date U.S. shipments of oil warm air furnaces increased +15.7%, to 20,693 units, compared to 17,891 units shipped during the same period in 2025.
Central Air Conditioners and Air-Source Heat Pumps
U.S. shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps totaled 756,739 units in August 2026, increased +11.4% compared to 679,378 units shipped in August 2025. U.S. shipments of air conditioners increased +17.2%, to 418,323 units, compared to 356,930 units shipped in August 2025. U.S. shipments of air-source heat pumps increased +5.0%, to 338,416 units, compared to 322,448 shipped in August 2025.
Year-to-date combined shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps increased +6.2%, to 6,390,257, compared to 6,019,962 units shipped during the same period in 2025. Year-to-date shipments of central air conditioners increased +6.5%, to 3,481,613 units, compared to 3,268,714 units shipped during the same period in 2025. The year-to-date total for heat pump shipments increased +5.7%, to 2,908,644, compared to 2,751,248 units shipped during the same period in 2025.
