CHARLOTTE, North Carolina — Carrier’s commercial chillers have been named the Coolest Thing Made in North Carolina, winning the large business category in an annual competition hosted by the North Carolina Chamber.

The competition recognizes innovation and economic impact across the state’s manufacturing industry. This year’s contest featured 88 nominees across three business categories based on employee count.

Carrier manufactures chillers at its Charlotte facility, which has operated for more than 25 years. The factory produces customized chiller solutions for customers worldwide, supporting building energy efficiency, performance, and sustainability goals.

“Manufacturing is a cornerstone of North Carolina’s economy, and this award recognizes the strength of the state’s manufacturing sector and the innovation at our Charlotte facility,” said Arnulfo Martinez, senior director of Charlotte Operations at Carrier.

Willis Carrier invented the centrifugal refrigeration machine, commonly known as the chiller, in 1922. Chiller technology supports climate control in hospitals, schools, airports, commercial buildings, industrial facilities and other critical infrastructure.

Carrier continues to invest in technologies designed to improve efficiency, resiliency and operational performance across the built environment, according to the company.

The award coincides with National Manufacturing Month, which highlights modern manufacturing and its role in the economy.

“Carrier Chillers are a great example of the innovation and craftsmanship happening across our state, and voters agreed,” said Gary Salamido, president and CEO of the North Carolina Chamber.
