On the heels of being named one of the Top 50 Fastest-Growing Companies by the Jacksonville Business Journal, JAX Refrigeration was honored with two Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC) national Excellence In Construction Awards.

JAX Refrigeration received a Pyramid Award for the construction of its company headquarters in Jacksonville Beach, including the integration of its own unique, high-tech, three-pronged HVAC system. JAX Refrigeration also provided the ammonia and Freon refrigeration systems for Greencore, a Whiting-Turner Contracting food processing facility project in Rhode Island. Its work on this project received the highest Excellence In Construction honor, the Eagle Award.

The ABC Excellence In Construction Awards honor the skill and creativity of the entire team – contractor, owner, architect and engineer – responsible for an outstanding merit shop construction project. The two 2016 awards mark a total of three Excellence In Construction awards for JAX Refrigeration. In 2015, JAX Refrigeration won an Eagle Award for its CXP Data Center project under the “Mechanical Commercial Project Under $2M” category.

JAX Refrigeration President Mark Lowery said the awards are a product of the company’s excellent customers and employees.

“It is humbling to be recognized for these honors,” said Lowery. “They represent the successful effort of each one of our employees and the positive relationships they foster with our clients, partners and peers. We are grateful to have such a wonderful team.”

The Greencore project, which won the Eagle Award for the “Mechanical: Industrial – Less than $10 million” category, is a 100,000-square-foot ready-to-eat food processing facility. JAX Refrigeration’s scope of work included seven hygienic rooftop make-up air handling units, 27 ammonia ceiling hung evaporators, a new ammonia engine room and four split system Freon units for freezer space. Part of the award consideration involved JAX Refrigeration’s ability to overcome the challenge of Rhode Island’s requirement of an additional Refrigeration Journeyman License for all onsite workers.

JAX Refrigeration received the Pyramid Award for the construction of its own 7,000-square-foot, $1.8 million headquarters, which was completed in October 2015. The two-story building showcases craftsmanship from the JAX Mechanical fabrication shop and three different cooling systems: a typical RTU, a VRF system and a central system utilizing VAVs. The systems were integrated with an innovative, high-tech control system that allows JAX Refrigeration to service, troubleshoot and monitor the equipment through remote access.

Charitable Commitment
In addition to JAX Refrigeration’s commitment to excellence in construction, the company has been committed to supporting national and local charities since its incorporation. It created the JAXCares Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit, to distribute monies in support of other nonprofits such as Dreams Come True and Do It For The Love. In the past year, JAXCares has contributed more than $70,000 to Jacksonville-area nonprofits and JAX Refrigeration employees have committed approximately 150 volunteer work hours.
