SKIP SNYDER HUMANITARIAN AWARD

The 2018 Skip Snyder Humanitarian Award was presented to Kevin Sharkey, of Sharkey Air LLC, Stuart, FL.

Sharkey was recognized for his decades of work helping families who are coping with illnesses. From personal experience, Kevin knew that families often need a sanctuary and place to be together while family members undergo medical treatments. Kevin’s daughter, Molly Sharkey, was diagnosed with chronic myelocytic leukemia and throughout the family’s struggles they often found comfort in Ronald McDonald Houses throughout the country as they searched for a cure.

Before passing away in 1992, Molly told her father she wanted a haven for families in her home town of Stuart, FL. On September 21, 1996 Molly’s dream came true as Molly’s House opened its doors to ensure families could be together in times of need. Since 1996, Molly’s House has been a sanctuary to more than 22,000 people while they or loved ones receive medical treatment.

“It is always an honor for ACCA to present the Skip Snyder Humanitarian Award to a deserving contractor, but this year was even more special,” said Paul T. Stalknecht, ACCA president and CEO. “I have known Kevin for many years and didn’t know about Molly’s House. Kevin is a humble man who does not seek credit for his good deeds, but he certainly deserves this prestigious award. On behalf of ACCA’s membership, I offer a warm thank you to Kevin for his leadership and community service.”

The Skip Snyder Humanitarian Award was established by ACCA in memory of Skip Snyder, a past national chairman of ACCA and NATE, who passed away in 2013. Skip was an iconic figure in the HVACR industry, but through his many benevolent efforts and actions, he left his footprints everywhere – especially at ACCA. This prestigious award is presented annually to recognize an ACCA contractor who makes extraordinary contributions to the betterment of society and community. It is a tribute that defines Skip's remarkable character and his philosophy of life – helping, caring, and sharing with others.
