This proficient team installed four custom air handling unit replacements at a hospital in need of refreshment.

Baikal Mechanical, an HVAC engineering and manufacturing company based in Brooklyn, N.Y., specializes in retrofits of old HVAC systems, with a focus on innovative and custom solutions.

For our spotlight on commercial retrofits, Baikal Mechanical submitted a profile of custom air handling unit replacements at a hospital in Port Jervis, N.Y. Additional contractor support was provided by GRR Cooling.

The hospital serves the community with acute care and medical-surgical services, a 24-hour emergency department, long-term care and rehabilitation, a dedicated bariatric surgery unit, behavioral health, and outpatient services.

It Was Time
The hospital was using air handling equipment that was 50 years old. The problem was tape and metal cliffs, which bring technical issues. The major challenge was to replace four custom air handling units, “ASAP”.
The SolutionIn four days of downtime, the Baikal team and GRR Cooling designed and installed four custom air handler units. Over those four days, the equipment was replaced without affecting hospital capacity.

The clients were pleased with services provided by Baikal and GRR Cooling. “They said they don’t want to use anyone else other than us,” said Jason, a senior engineer at Baikal.
