CHANTILLY, Virginia — The Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association (SMACNA) has released two new technical standards, including the fifth edition of its HVAC Duct Design Guide in Spanish.

The HVAC Duct Design Guide provides methods and procedures for designing HVAC air distribution systems. It includes information on duct design, duct fitting selection, examples, calculations, and tables.

The manual also covers air distribution materials, construction methods, duct system economics and layout, pressure losses, fan selection, duct leakage, acoustic considerations, and testing, adjusting and balancing.

SMACNA also released the second edition of its Kitchen Ventilation Systems and Food Service Equipment standard. The standard provides guidance on the fabrication and installation of commercial kitchen ventilation systems and custom-built food preparation and serving equipment.

The guide is intended to help designers, contractors, and code officials address the design, installation, construction, and balancing of exhaust and make-up air systems used in commercial kitchen ventilation.

The second edition was developed in accordance with NSF/ANSI 2: Food Equipment, applicable codes, and recognized industry standards.

SMACNA members can access free copies of the standards, while other industry members can purchase them. The association’s standards and manuals are available through its online bookstore.
